The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical and administrative support to the Nevada legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods. The Legislative Police serves and protects all legislative employees, visitors and the buildings and property of the LCB. This is a full-time position located in Carson City, Nevada.

Responsibilities of the Security Screener may include, without limitation:

• Operating screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous or prohibited items in bags, containers or on individuals, whether openly carried or concealed, to prevent entry into the LCB building(s);

• Performing security screening protocols in a professional and respectful manner while upholding high standards of confidentiality, honesty and reliability;

  • Notifying the proper chain-of-command when a more in-depth search of a person, bag or other item is required;
  • Writing clear, concise and well-structured incident reports;

• Interacting with the public by providing directions, answering questions and assisting with information on hearings and public meetings;

• Providing transportation for legislators and visitors to and from the legislative building and surrounding parking areas, as needed;

• Collaborating with Legislative Police, fellow screener staff and other law enforcement partners to ensure effective communication and coordinated operations; and

• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: The Security Screener will be selected with a special preference given to the candidate’s training, experience and aptitude in the field of security screening and security-related services. A qualified candidate must have: (1) a valid driver’s license; (2) a high school diploma/GED; and (3) at least 1 year of experience providing professional-level customer service. Prior military or law enforcement experience is preferred.

• Excellent customer service skills and a commitment to professionalism;

• The ability to interact with others in a professional, respectful, courteous and nonconfrontational manner;

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and address risks in a fast-paced environment;

• Sound judgment and decision-making skills in both routine and crisis situations;

• A strong commitment to integrity, honesty and reliability;

• The ability to lift and move medium to large items weighing up to 50 pounds, employing proper safety techniques; and

• The physical capability to perform tasks such as walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, crouching, gripping, holding, pushing, pulling, bending and reaching overhead.

Salary: The annual salary for this position is based upon a Grade 32, which has a salary range of $56,689 to $83,666 under the employee/employer paid retirement option. An employer paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced salary in lieu of an employee contribution. Actual starting salary will be based on experience.

Benefits: The benefits include the accrual of paid annual leave and sick leave, health insurance and membership in the state’s retirement plan.
