We are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to join our team on a landmark multi-year initiative focused on enhancing the bridge’s structural resilience while preserving its historic integrity.

Position Overview:

The Project Engineer will support daily engineering, coordination, and management activities for the seismic retrofit scope of work. This role involves close collaboration with construction teams, subcontractors, designers, and project stakeholders to ensure successful and safe execution of all project phases. The ideal candidate has strong technical competence, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a high-profile, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering & Technical Support

• Assist with interpretation of contract documents, specifications, drawings, and engineering reports.

• Prepare and review engineering calculations, construction methodologies, and temporary works designs.

• Support seismic retrofit activities including steel reinforcement, anchorage systems, structural modifications, and specialty access/rigging needs.

• Contribute to value engineering initiatives and constructability reviews.

Project Coordination & Documentation

• Develop and maintain submittals, RFIs, design clarifications, as-built drawings, and technical logs.

• Coordinate closely with the design team, project managers, superintendents, inspectors, and owner representatives.

• Track material procurement, production rates, and schedule impacts.

• Assist in preparing progress reports, meeting minutes, and documentation required by the Owner.

Field Support

• Provide daily field engineering support to construction crews, ensuring work complies with plans, specs, and safety requirements.

• Monitor installation quality, survey/layout, tolerances, and inspections for seismic retrofit components.

• Support resolution of field issues through collaboration with designers and specialty subcontractors.

Safety & Compliance

• Uphold company safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and project safety requirements.

• Participate in hazard analysis, risk mitigation planning, and safety audits.

• Ensure quality control procedures are followed for all seismic retrofit activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

• 2–5+ years of experience in heavy civil, bridge, infrastructure, or structural construction projects.

• Strong understanding of structural systems, steel and concrete construction, and seismic retrofit principles.

• Proficiency with engineering and construction software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Office; P6 a plus).

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to work in challenging field conditions, including heights, marine environments, and active jobsite constraints.
